4.6 Queen, King

Activity

Spend time with each of the Wands below to generate your “tarot encyclopedia” notecard for each. I recommend the following process, which only takes ~10 minutes per card. You do not need to complete all (or any) card in a single sitting.

  1. Look at the image on the card and examine its details.
  2. Read the page in the companion book for that card.
  3. Read the description provided here.
  4. OPTIONAL: Read other descriptions of that card online or in other books.
  5. Reflect on the questions posed.
  6. Write down the details of the image that have meaning to you and the 2 or 3 interpretations (perhaps 1 heavenly, 1 upright earthly, and 1 reversed earthly) that resonate most strongly for you. Feel free to write down your own interpretations based on what comes to you!

Queen of Wands

Name: Muse

Astrology: March 11 – April 10
Element: Specific Water in Primal Fire

Position on The Tree: Understanding Force of Water in the Archetypal World.

Notes to consider: This force is security in intelligence, passion, sexuality, and prowess. It is the radiant essence of confidence and charisma. This is the energy of the Princess in maturity, focusing on unifying the Will (within ourselves and with others) to inspire beautiful processes. Notice her sphere is smooth, not spiked, and instead of an animal sacrifice, she has a tame panther.

When this element gets out of balance, there may be a tendency for emotional abuse and tyrannical behavior.

King of Wands

Name: Leader

Astrology: July 12 – August 11
Element: Specific Air in Primal Fire

Position on The Tree: Beauty Force of Air in the Archetypal world.

Notes to consider: The lion is chained up but held loosely. The lion = Leo = the Sun = the Higher Self ready and waiting to take care of business. The Phoenix wand relates to Severity, as does the crimson clothing. He has all the power and isn’t afraid to use it. The purpose Air of Fire holds is to apply the Divine Will to construct a more evolved personality through noble balance, fearlessness, and swift action. Sometimes that means destroying things.

Much like his Queen, the King can be a terrifying tyrant, intolerant, and a great, arrogant, boasting windbag.
