Activity

Spend time with each of the Pentacles below to generate your “tarot encyclopedia” notecard for each. I recommend the following process, which only takes ~10 minutes per card. You do not need to complete all (or any) card in a single sitting.

  1. Look at the image on the card and examine its details.
  2. Read the page in the companion book for that card.
  3. Read the description provided here.
  4. OPTIONAL: Read other descriptions of that card online or in other books.
  5. Reflect on the questions posed.
  6. Write down the details of the image that have meaning to you and the 2 or 3 interpretations (perhaps 1 heavenly, 1 upright earthly, and 1 reversed earthly) that resonate most strongly for you. Feel free to write down your own interpretations based on what comes to you!

Notes to Consider: The Queen brings the energy of creative participation and intends to be a kind, charming, nurturing, and healing force in the world. She preserves, fertilizes, and organizes the activities of life. The Princess has matured and taken her place of power as a unifying force. She can also be flighty, tempestuous, and smothering.

What significance is there in only seeing the left half of her face? How does the image call you to balance your personal and professional obligations? What might happen to the Queen’s energy if it gets out of balance or disconnected due to difficulties?

Notes to Consider: This King brings the energy of intelligence, leadership, and creativity to work, finances, and the way we present ourselves in the world. He is the master of his affairs and supremely capable of practically addressing needs. He is obstinate and stubborn in his certainty of his path. These are powerful attributes that can be difficult to be around. He can be obstinate, frugal, and conservative to a fault. At times, he can be greedy, overbearing, and hyper-critical.

What is the significance of only seeing the right half of his face? How does the image of the bull juxtaposed against the soaring eagle strike you? Who do you know that may be a very “King of Pentacles” person?
