3.5 Ten, Princess, Knight

Activity

Spend time with each of the Cups below to generate your “tarot encyclopedia” notecard for each. I recommend the following process, which only takes ~10 minutes per card. You do not need to complete all (or any) card in a single sitting.

  1. Look at the image on the card and examine its details.
  2. Read the page in the companion book for that card.
  3. Read the description provided here.
  4. OPTIONAL: Read other descriptions of that card online or in other books.
  5. Reflect on the questions posed.
  6. Write down the details of the image that have meaning to you and the 2 or 3 interpretations (perhaps 1 heavenly, 1 upright earthly, and 1 reversed earthly) that resonate most strongly for you. Feel free to write down your own interpretations based on what comes to you!

Ten of Cups

Name: Perfect Success

Astrological Correspondence: Mars in Pisces

Position on The Tree: Pluto of Water. Kingdom in the Creative World.

Notes to consider: Sweet reunion! Does this slightly older and more world-wise couple remind you of anyone? Perhaps in the Two? All that work in Creating a World is complete, and the next cycle is ready to begin. Pay attention; it can be easy to get addicted to good times and restart the cycle of indulgence, corruption/loss, recovery, tough decisions, and bringing the process to completion. Is there anything we can do differently?

Recognize the blessings of being fulfilled and having a process come to fruition. There’s a lasting success in bringing our “internal family” together.

Princess of Cups

Name: Dreamer

Astrology: Season of Autumn. Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius
Element: Specific Earth of Primal Water

Position on The Tree: Kingdom Force of Earth in the Creative World. Thone to the Ace.

Notes to consider: A figure coming into form from the ocean of the Mind expresses the Princess of Cups’ power to make our dreams a reality. She is the force of manifesting our heart’s desires, consciously or unconsciously creating the world around us out of the contents of our minds. She is imaginative, playful, and courageous. She guides us into a depth of emotional passion and certainty with respect to what we want in life.

If she is ill-dignified, she may be lazy, decadent, resistant, and over-sensitive.

Knight of Cups

Name: Lover

Astrology: Feb 9 – Mar 10
Element: Specific Fire of Primal Water

Position on The Tree: Wisdom Force of Fire in the Creative World.

Notes to consider: This is the energy that stirs the emotions. He is the ruler of the ebbs and flows of our emotional tides. Notice how the horse walks on water. The Crab represents Cancer and, by extension, the Moon. The peacock represents Wisdom (sefirah).

This is the force of insight, self-knowledge, grace, and deep camaraderie. Very amicable, though perhaps a bit shallow and lustful. A great enthusiasm for life and love, but the fluidity may also manifest as a lack of discipline, changeability, and laziness.
