1.5 Ten, Princess, Knight
Activity
Spend time with each of the Pentacles below to generate your “tarot encyclopedia” notecard for each. I recommend the following process, which only takes ~10 minutes per card. You do not need to complete all (or any) card in a single sitting.
- Look at the image on the card and examine its details.
- Read the page in the companion book for that card.
- Read the description provided here.
- OPTIONAL: Read other descriptions of that card online or in other books.
- Reflect on the questions posed.
- Write down the details of the image that have meaning to you and the 2 or 3 interpretations (perhaps 1 heavenly, 1 upright earthly, and 1 reversed earthly) that resonate most strongly for you. Feel free to write down your own interpretations based on what comes to you!
Ten of Pentacles

Name: Wealth
Astrological Correspondence: Mercury in Virgo
Position on The Tree: Earth of Earth. Kingdom in The Active World.
Notes to Consider: This card is the catch-pool of the entire process of manifestation. It declares that we are wealthy beyond any need and, because of that, have choices to make. Will we let it slow us down and control us (thinking of Ebenezer Scrooge)? Or will we use our resources to benefit all mankind and master our lives?
The dog often represents our spiritual nature or companion, What do you think the relationship between the man and his dog is like?
What are the young people up to? Will he say hi to those who pass by and offer some supporting wisdom and resources, or stay silent in his place of luxury?
Princess of Pentacles

Name: The Apprentice
Astrology: Ruler of Spring (Aries, Taurus, Gemini)
Element: Specific Earth of in Primal Earth
Position on The Tree: Kingdom as the source of Earth in the Active World, throne of the Ace of Pentacles.
Notes to Consider: This Princess rules the season of Spring from the throne of Material Source (The Ace of Pentacles.) The energy is attentive and observant taking in the details and applying the learning to practical matters. It is emblematic of the raw experience of sensing that is necessary for maturation and practical transitions.
When the Princess’s energy is supported and balanced, it is the grounded “coming into being” of our favorite Disney stories. When it’s displaced, it is scattered and distracted, more concerned with “being” than with “doing” and thus unable to apply itself meaningfully.
Knight of Pentacles

Name: The Protector
Astrological Correspondence: Rules Aug 12. to Sep. 11.
Element: Specific Fire in Primal Earth
Position on The Tree: Wisdom as the Source of Fire in the Active World.
Notes to Consider: The Knight forces the necessary change in the world. His steady, methodical, single-minded effort brings things into stable form. His domain is that of “getting sh*t done.” This force can also be perfectionistic, overly cautious, determined, brutish, simple, or jealous.
When out of balance, fire of the earth can lead to inconsistency, rushing, and a lack of confidence.
