I think of frontiers as the extreme limit of understanding or achievement in a particular area and boundaries as the limit of a subject or sphere of activity.

As you point out, a frontier is an invitation into infinite potential. Exploring a boundary assumes a limitation.

Our capacity to imagine, desire, and create a new, seemingly impossible future by “name” feels very much like a Star Trek “Final Frontier” attitude—or maybe a Captain Jack sparrow saying, “Bring me that Horizon.”
