While the system pre-dates Siddhartha Gautama\, he is credited with adding sati (mindfulness) to jhanas and thoroughly investigating the experience. While the system pre-dates Siddhartha Gautama\, he is credited with adding sati (mindfulness) to jhanas and thoroughly investigating the experience. He is also said to have identified the 8th jhana\, its associated experience of cessation\, and resulting insight\, paving the way for a new religious movement. Jhana is a rigorous and demanding method that radically transforms our lives.
